GeoTwinn

3D Geological Modelling training, 12th – 14th and 16th October 2020

We are glad to inform you that another GeoTwinn training course in 3D geological modelling was hold in October 2020. Due to the present situation with COVID-19 outbreak, that caused travel restrictions, some of the GeoTwinn trainings were postponed. After identifying appropriate alternatives and minimal training programme adjustments, this session was performed online, with the use of Zoom platform.

The training in model building was performed for seven HGI-CGS scientist by two BGS‑UKRI modelling experts: Andrew Newell and Steve Thorpe. Course was held in separated sessions (4 days total, 2 h/day). The rest of the working hours of the training participants worked on the assigned tasks offline, which included data preparation and exercises that were reviewed and additionally discussed on the next day. Key objectives of the training were:

  • To develop introductory experience in the use of Paradigm SKUA-GOCAD software package
  • To review and import Ćićarija dataset selected for the development of the Deliverable D1.2 – Initial integrated model of Rijeka-Istria area
  • To discuss the D1.1 Zagreb groundwater aquifer dataset completion and to help in preparing the input data for the WP2.1 flow modelling training

The training was performed pretty smoothly which enabled achievement of all training objectives and the unhindered continuation of the project implementation plan.

Hereby we would also like to thank our trainers for the great atmosphere, their devotion and effort that contributed to the strengthening of the scientific capacity of HGI-CGS.
